birthday-part 2

Above, flowers for the Dining Room table----a gift from the incredibly talented and dear dear Van, who is my florist.
There are always flowers that are new to me, along with the beauties, I already do know......
Above---Lee and Marshall, (Lee's Husband), and Dianne T., and one of the wonderful appetizers that Will had made for our pre-Birthday Dinner......These are marinated pieces of Tofu---absolutely scrumptious---Who knew that Tofu could taste so damned good!
Below, a lovely group and some more pre-dinner goodies.
There's Dianne, and Will Grover, the wonderful caterer who makes it all happen----crudites on the table with two kinds of dip; then next to will is Karen Culliver Parks and Seemah--sitting on the couch and me and that is the back of Bridget Hanley's head.......
And above, that's Katy Melody Parks--Andy Parks' wife, with Annie G. behind her and on the table, Marinated Shrimp wrapped in Snow Peas.....almost half of my guests are Vegetarian's though they all eat Fish----so I try to build my Menu around them......
And, in front of me----which you can barely see, is the warm Brie with Apricots----One of my favorites!
I love this picture because it gives you a sense of the various parts of the room----that's Bridget H. in the forefront; Annie talking with Lee; and on the little couch against the far wall is Craig Curtis and Andy Parks......I love that there are many places to sit in this room......
A little closer look at Craig talking with Andy.....And my little Baby Baby 'Electronic' Grand over on the left......and then there is The Dining Room.....Below, there is Mary who works with Will and has been coming to my house with him for 35 years.....!
She is just beginning to serve everyone their Fabulous Fish----Chilean Sea Bass! Oh, it was so delicious. It is my favorite fish!  And we had Brown Rice----my request. I just know it's better for you and I like the taste a lot.
And there is Seemah, above, who, by the way, just turned 91 at the end of July.  Talk about not looking your age......
We had a lovely Salad--again, my favorite---Boston Lettuce with Pears and Caramelized Pecans with Gorgonzola Cheese; and Asparagus with Lemon Vinaigrette, and Croissants with Butter.......
Some of us ate in the living room----that's why I love those big white plates!  They are kind of like a tray, which makes them easier to navigate on your lap....There is Andy on the floor and Craig, sitting in the chair, and Karen and Garrett sitting on the couch----and that is my plate down in the left hand corner of the picture.......
A closer look above, of my plate----the Fish is almost out of the frame over on the lower left----It was everything I hoped it would be....
Yum Yum Yummmmmmmy!
Well, you can't see the food any better above,
but you can see me, about to tear into it all......
I'm not thrilled with having a bandage on my nose, but it was needed......
I enjoyed every morsel and everyone else did, too, as far as I could tell....
Going back for 'seconds' is always a good sign.

Part 3 will be posted soon.....

More To Come.......

Pretty flowers! Looks like it was a lovely dinner. Do you play your baby grand? I love music, but never spent the time learning how to play anything.

Now that is how to entertain. What amazing food and how nice to have someone you have known a long time do it for you. Everyone looks so great---you gals are doing something, make that everything, right. Also good to see the men there. You have the perfect place for a party. Plenty of room and areas where groups can gather plus a delightful hostess.
Looking forward to part 3.

Such a beautiful party -- and the food? Everything, as usual, is grand and makes us, at least me, feel as if we are there. Thank you for inviting us Naomi. Looking forward to Part III.

I love the way your room has different areas for people to sit in, we have that in our lounge too and at Christmas it means small little groups of people chat together rather than them feeling they all need to talk in one big group which can be hard work.

I don't eat fish, well apart from smoked salmon but I know a great many people love it, my partner included. I think it's always an excellent sign that people are enjoying the food and the company if they go back for more! It means they want to eat and stay for longer!

So the plaster on your nose is to cover up your nose job or your piercing, right? Only joking!

I wish I had someone to cook and serve my food when we entertain, maybe I'd do it more often!

I enjoy your party pictures for a number of reasons.
1. You always look so happy surrounded with so many of your dearest friends.
2. Those flowers! Exquisite! Van is a floral genius.
3. The food. My mouth is watering just imagining the taste of Chilean sea bass.
4. The wonderful art decorating your walls. I'd love to just stand in the middle of your living room and gaze at all your treasures. Beautiful! Not forgetting of course, the marvellous view from your verandah!
I'm so glad you had a lovely party to celebrate your special day. Hugs from Canada!

You do have the best birthday parties! Your friends are so special, the food is super yummy, the décor is elegant and comfortable and the atmosphere is terrific. You looked very nice and ever so youthful - not showing your age at all. I did look at your past posts as I had not been on the computer for a while. While in Alameda I did not have computer access and since coming home my main computer has been erratic. Also I wanted to mention that I have never seen the large flat plates as you showed on your post – they really look very attractive and convenient for a buffet style meal, are they made in the US?

Oh the menu sounds divine. I am getting hungry just reading about it. What a great evening it must have been. The view was clear wasn't it and it looks to be perfect weather. Your home looks like a wonderful place to entertain. And as you say there are many places to sit so different conversations can be had between guests. I have to say that in all your parties everyone always looks so happy and they are always having fun!! Do you play the piano much Naomi? It looks lovely and I so love white pianos. Anyway, I look forward to part 3 when you are ready. I shall be back. And I said it on the last post but you are looking great my friend. Lots of love Lilly

Naomi I think you are the hostess with the mostest:)

What a wonderful party! I love tofu and it's quite flexible if you know how to prepare it :) I just noticed your balcony now after all these years and gosh you got a fabulous view there!

Btw, I can see the ads and if you want I can delete them and just replaced them with text. That way we don't need to change your theme :)

You are looking wonderful! The food looks healthy and delicious although I'm not a fan of tofu. You say it's tasty and I believe you! I believe the tofu at YOUR party was tasty. You really know how to celebrate life and your home is a perfect place to do it. I love your white baby grand and all the artwork on your walls, the fun friends, food, view from the balcony. These are all great shots! Wish I could've been there to help you celebrate! Much love and hugs to you, my friend! xo

nothing like being way late to comment! As I looked at this group of photo's, besides loving seeing your friends gather around you, I also saw so much of your life. The piano for your music, Paintings for your art and love of art... you have had such a creative life. Multi-talented and loved by many. I am sad for your illness but happy for your life, and happy that I have gotten to know you!

Oh, Naomi, I love your beautiful apartment. The paintings, the layout, the light, the furniture. And it's all the more lovely because it is filled with friends and love. What a grand celebration! Many belated happy birthday greetings.

I am catching up on posts and see there is at least one more I must read. I've not been online as much as I would have liked this summer so there is much to discover with my blog friends!

I hope you are feeling as well as possible. I'm sure a beautiful day like this had to do volumes to boost those happy enzymes that I'm sure help our immunities!
